ATP Cup organisers confirm Djokovic will miss the tournament

The organisers of the ATP Cup have confirmed that the first racket of the world, Novak Djokovic, will miss the next draw of the tournament.

To participate in the Australian part of the new season, tennis players must be vaccinated against coronavirus. Djokovic previously opposed mandatory vaccinations. Serbia’s news outlet, Blic, reported last week that Djokovic is unlikely to help Serbia in the ATP Cup matches. The new team competition starts on January 1. Serbia will play against Norway, Spain and Chile in the group stage.

Interestingly, Djokovic is still unconfirmed for the Australian Open, although the organisers have a few wild cards for the athletes that don’t want to get a vaccine.

The Serb finished the year at the top of the ATP world rankings for the seventh time and gained an ITF’s award of the best player of the year. Want to know more about tennis news and don’t miss the important news? Subscribe to and receive the latest updates to your email.
