News agencies recognised Novak Djokovic as the Athlete for the Year in Europe. In a vote that involved 26 organisations, the Serbian athlete was declared the winner. Novak was 39 points ahead of Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, who scored 172 points. Max Verstappen, the new Formula 1 World Champion, took third place.
Novak won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments in 2021. The Serbian tennis player is first at the ATP World Rankings for the seventh year. The ITF recognised Novak as the champion of the world in December.

This award became fourth for the Serb. His stable performance allows pretending for this reward annually. According to the latest reports, Djokovic won’t help Serbia at the Team ATP Cup next month.
