Players from Russia and Belarus won’t be able to participate at Wimbledon

Shortly, the organizers of Wimbledon will announce a prohibition on the list of participants for their event this year. The talk is about athletes from Russia and Belarus because of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, while Belarus also supported the aggressor in this action.

This was reported by the American media with reference to a high-ranking tennis official. Wimbledon will be the first tournament with such restrictions.

It should be noted that four Russians are in the top 30 in the world’s men’s rankings, and five Russians are in the top 40 in the women’s rankings. Also in the top twenty of the WTA rankings are two tennis players from Belarus.

Earlier it was reported that players from these countries might be present at the tennis event in London if two elements adhered. The first one is their public position and conviction of the Russian president and aggressor Vladimir Putin, while the second one is an approved absence of financial support from Russia.
