The legendary Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam owner, has announced that she will skip the main Australian tennis competition in the upcoming year.
The American tennis icon retired from the first round at Wimbledon and didn’t play since that time. According to her announcement, she is not at the needed level of physical conditions to chase the eighth trophy at the Australian Open. She looks very disappointed as the opening Grand Slam event is among her favourite. The decision was tough but right. At the same time, she hopes to return to top-class tennis in 2022 to please fans and try her forces, although she is 40 already.
The latest success at the Grand Slam tournaments was in Melbourne, almost five years ago. In the tournament in 2021, Serena lost to Naomi Osaka in the semifinals in Melbourne.
Australian Open-2022 will take place between January 17-30. The Japanese athlete Osaka remains the reigning women’s singles champion in Melbourne. Want to know more about tennis news and don’t miss the important news? Subscribe to tabletennisfansite.com and receive the latest updates to your email.
